Ada sebuah cerita kuno yang diceritakan turun temurun dari generasi ke generasi orang kristiani tentang Rasul Petrus selama masa tuanya. Alkisah, ia sering menangis setiap kali mendengar bunyi ayam berkokok. Tentu saja jika kita mengetahui sejarah Alkitab, kita tahu alasannya.
Namun dikatakan pula bahwa Petrus sering menangis di waktu lain, dan tak ada orang yang tahu pasti penyebabnya. Akhirnya, pada suatu hari, seorang suci yang masih muda berhasil mengumpulkan keberanian untuk menanyakan hal itu kepada Petrus.
“Petrus, mengapa kau sering sekali menangis?” tanya nya ingin tahu.
Petrus menoleh pada pemuda itu, dan dengan pandangan penuh kerinduan yang menyala-nyala di matanya, ia menjawab pelan, “Desiderio Domini“.
“Desiderio Domini” berasal dari bahasa Latin yang artinya “aku rindu untuk bersama-sama dengan Tuhanku”.
Petrus telah menghabiskan hidupnya bersama manusia. Sekarang ia telah siap untuk pergi ke surga, dengan sebuah kerinduan yang semakin kuat setiap harinya untuk berlari menuju pelukan penuh kasih dari sahabat dan Juru Selamat yang sangat dikasihinya, yakni Yesus Kristus.
